There has never been a more vital part to the development of the urban mobility than innovation. From the invention of the wheel to mass production of cars, innovation moves us forward every day and helps us overcome even the problems that we are facing today. What exactly are the challenges of urban mobility in the 21st century? And how can the bright minds make their ideas become reality? Let's find out in the new episode of the Urban Mobility Podcast brought to you in collaboration of INFO.CZ and the EIT Urban Mobility.
Have you ever wondered how
would the traffic look like if there were no traffic lights at almost
every crossroad? Today we take them for granted, but do you realise
that the invention of traffic lights is over a hundred years old?
Without innovation, maybe we will still be riding horse driven
carriages today. “Innovation is constantly changing our lives and
we see that everyday,” says Marian Nič, the innovation life cycle
officer at the EIT Urban Mobility Innovation Hub East adding that the
way of living in the cities has changed significantly in the last
century, but also technologies helping us overcome the daily
struggles of urban living have gone a long road. “When we look at
our changing environment, we can see three different topics. The
first is digital transformation, the second is the mindset shift that
the digital transformation brought us and the third is the
regulation of a sustainable environment,” explains Nič.
There are many ways how the innovators of today can make it big and bring their ideas to life on a global scale. The EIT Urban Mobility community constanly helps them to achieve these goals. One of the partners in this process is also Prague based PowerHUB, which is a multipurpose institution focusing on incubation and accelaration of startups, helping with financing and funding, providing legal suport and administration and also networking within the community and organising various events. “We analyse the needs of the startups and then look into our pool of mentors and match their knowledge with the needs of the startups. We provide training program, we can help with applying to another programs and to connect with other companies across Europe and not only Europe. Over five hundred startups have already gone through our programs,” says Toufik Dallal, leader of the EIT Urban Mobility program at PowerHUB.
